To increase the chances of bees nesting in your bee house, add and loosely mix in some dry hay and fluffy moss to create a nest pocket, or add in mouse nest material to create an odour that bumblebees are attracted to - being sure to site all nesting materials about 50mm back from the nester entrance.

Once a bee nesting house has been occupied by a nesting queen and colony the box should be inspected, which can only be done in spring even though bumblebees are normally not aggressive unless they sense an extreme threat.
