The beautiful, handcrafted Tiggie Hedgehog House is a high-quality hog house with a natural oak color scheme. Crafted in the UK with care by people with autism and learning disabilities, this hedgehog house is made from sustainably sourced timber with the hedgehog's wellbeing in mind.
This hedgehog box is proudly used by Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue Centre, a testament to its excellent design. The internal walls offer hedgehogs distinct areas for eating and sleeping, a feature that works extremely well for them.
Place the box in a sheltered, quiet spot like a garden corner surrounded by undergrowth, protected from wind and rain. Leave dry leaves or straw outside the entrance for hedgehogs to use as bedding inside. The Spike house also has felt on the roof and base for extra waterproofing, and its raised feet keep the interior dry.
The Spike comes with fixing instructions and some minimal assembly is required, it's really important that these instructions are followed to ensure that the house is safe and secure.
Clean the box in early spring and autumn, after confirming hedgehogs are not hibernating or breeding inside, and avoid disturbing them during hoglet season from May through early September.
Use hot soapy water and make sure that the box is well aired and dried after cleaning. If putting out food, leave it a couple of metres away as hedgehogs don’t tend to eat and sleep in the same place. Hedgehogs prefer specialist hedgehog food or tinned meaty dog or cat food and crushed cat or dog biscuits.
To prevent disease transmission, remove any uneaten food and wash feeding dishes daily outside with hot, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and secure the tunnel entrance before use. Avoid feeding hedgehogs bread, milk, or mealworms, as these foods can harm them. Since multiple hedgehogs may visit the feeding area, daily sanitation is essential.
